- A version of FinaleŽ software. (All FinaleŽ products export to MusicXML format as of 2009)
- A software that can import MusicXML and export ASCII such as Guitar Pro 5. Click HERE for a list of software that supports MusicXML.
Follow these steps:
- Start with the FinaleŽ file you want to convert to TAB.

- Click File -> MusicXML -> Export
- Save the file someplace you can find it.

- Start Guitar Pro and click File -> Import -> MusicXML

- You might have two tracks, one for the TAB staff and one for the treble or bass clef, depending on your original FinaleŽ file.
- Delete empty tracks by clicking on the unwanted track and then clicking Track -> Delete
- MusicXML format keeps all the tab positions so you won't have to go through the file and reposition notes on the TAB staff.
- At this point, you can add slides, taps, hammer-ons, bends, etc. in Guitar Pro to add necessary details to your TAB.

- When your TAB is ready, click File -> Export -> ASCII

- Next you'll see the ASCII Tab Export window where you can add information and set your columns (how wide your TAB will be)
- In Windows, the file is saved as a .TAB file. Open with Wordpad. (Windows Notepad seems to screw up the format)
- If you put notes in your Finale file, you can copy and paste them into Wordpad.
- Guitar Pro indicates rhythm above the TAB.
- Guitar Pro also exports the TAB with Duration and Tablature legends that will help anyone looking at your TAB understand it better.
